How AIS-140 fitment works in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh follows the national framework: the device must be an AIS-140 certified VLTD with type approval from a recognised testing agency, and the manufacturer must be registered with the state for public service vehicles and national permit vehicles. Fitment is done by the manufacturer's service centre or an authorised Retro Fitment Centre (RFC).

The sequence most UP operators follow

  1. Choose a certified device from a manufacturer registered in the state.
  2. Get it fitted, with the panic button(s) wired in, at the manufacturer's centre or an authorised RFC.
  3. The device details — unique identification number, IMEI and SIM ICCID — are uploaded against your vehicle on the Vahan portal.
  4. The VLTD fitment certificate is generated on Vahan. It carries the vehicle and owner details, the device IMEI, the fitment date and a QR code for digital verification.
  5. That certificate is used for fitness certificate and permit work at the RTO.

Timelines and category-wise notifications are issued by the state transport department — always confirm the current position for your vehicle class with your RTO before you buy.

Which UP vehicles need a VLTD

What GPSBULL supplies in UP

The GPSBULL AIS-140-4G (model TRP-4G) carries ARAI type approval TAC AS9026, positions on GPS + GLONASS + IRNSS (NavIC), and runs on 4G LTE with a dual-network embedded SIM — which matters on long UP highway routes where a single operator's coverage can drop. Frequently asked questions — Uttar Pradesh

Which GPS device is approved for RTO passing in Uttar Pradesh?

Only an AIS-140 certified VLTD from a manufacturer registered with the state, fitted by the manufacturer's centre or an authorised retro-fitment centre, and activated against your vehicle on Vahan. Ordinary GPS trackers are rejected.

What is the VLTD fitment certificate in UP?

It is the certificate generated on the Vahan portal after your device is installed and linked. It carries your vehicle and owner details, the device IMEI, the fitment date and a QR code, and it is what the RTO checks during fitness and permit work.

Do national permit trucks passing through UP need a device?

National permit goods vehicles are covered by a separate MoRTH notification cited in state SOPs. Confirm your exact requirement with your home RTO; we supply the certified device either way.

Do you cover Noida, Ghaziabad and Lucknow?

Yes. GPSBULL manufactures in New Delhi and supplies fleets, dealers and fitment centres across Uttar Pradesh, with 24/7 device support after installation.

Can I upgrade an old 2G device fitted years ago?

Yes — swap to the 4G AIS-140 device and re-link the new IMEI against your vehicle. The full process is in our 2G shutdown upgrade guide.
