Why panic buttons are mandatory
The AIS-140 standard — part of India's post-Nirbhaya public-safety framework — requires emergency request buttons in public transport and notified commercial vehicles. When a passenger or driver presses the button, the tracking device immediately transmits an emergency alert with live location to the configured government emergency-response backend, so help can be dispatched to the vehicle's exact position.
A panic button is only as good as the device behind it. Buttons wired to non-certified trackers do not reach the state emergency infrastructure — which is why the button and the VLTD must be deployed as one certified system.
